Artist Residence Brighton in Brighton, East Sussex — Boutique Hotel

Brighton, East Sussex

Where Art Meets the Shoreline

Bohemian soul and sea-salted air, framed in Regency elegance.

Tucked into the elegant sweep of Regency Square, just steps from the shingle and salt air of Brighton's famous seafront, Artist Residence is the kind of place that makes you question why you ever book anywhere else. This isn't your average boutique bolthole — it's a love letter to creativity, with every corner of this beautifully converted Regency townhouse dressed in bohemian flair, original artworks, and the sort of considered, characterful design that feels genuinely lived-in rather than staged for Instagram. With sea views stretching out from balcony apartments and the distant rhythm of the waves as your permanent soundtrack, the setting alone is worth the journey.

Inside, the mood is gloriously relaxed and artfully eclectic — think mismatched vintage furniture, bold colour palettes, and artwork that actually makes you stop and look. The hotel's much-loved bar and restaurant, Blake's, draws locals and guests alike, cementing Artist Residence's status as far more than just a place to sleep. It's a destination in its own right, buzzing with the creative energy that Brighton does better than anywhere else in Britain.

With a guest rating of 8.7 out of 10 and price points that sit refreshingly within reach, Artist Residence Brighton pulls off that rarest of tricks: genuine boutique luxury without the eye-watering bill. Whether you're a sun-chasing beach lover, a wandering creative seeking inspiration, or simply someone who refuses to settle for the ordinary, this is your Brighton base camp. Book the balcony room, order something wonderful from the bar, and let the sea do the rest.

What They Say

I had such a wonderful stay here last weekend. As part of a small wedding party on Saturday night we decided to have some drinks here, Samuel and Dan were incredibly helpful to accommodate us in the most cosy lounge setting. We ordered a range of different cocktails and they were absolutely stunning!! Even better to enjoy them with such a beautiful view of the sea. In terms of the room, mine was so cosy and had everything I could ever need! I had a beautiful coffee that I ordered in the morning and I think it was Jake who served me and again, was just so lovely! The team here really make it so special, I will definitely be coming back! LOVED IT! Thank you Samuel, Dan and Jake! You’re wonderful!

Amazing place to stay in Brighton. It's quirky, beautifully furnished and everything about it is generous. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Just to note there is an underground car park opposite which is convenient but expensive. Don't let that put you off staying here.

Great location looking straight over the sea & easy walking distance to shops etc. The staff were super friendly but we were underwhelmed by the triple room. It was in the basement at the rear of the building, very little natural light and only a filament bulb as the main lighting so it felt very dark and claustraphobic. It didnt help that the room was baking hot through the night and despite having the fan on it just didnt help as the window/door just opened up on to a damp covered over small patio area whch didnt have much air flow. The extra bed area in the cabin section had no room to put anything down and no space to get dressed. The bathroom was tiny, water pressure on taps incredibly low, skirting board missing and quite a lot of black mold on the tiles. Coffee machine didnt work properly, no remote for tv in small bedroom area but you couldnt really have both tvs on anyway as they just interfered with each other. The room was clean but felt it needed some maintenance. The room is down a corridor past the bar toilets and ping pong room, it isn't soundproof so may struggle if a light sleeper. Overall it was ok but to be honest I was expecting more of a trendy hotel feel than pub feel, maybe it was just our room. I really think the hotel should mention the only natural light is a frosted sky light which is coming from the covered over patio, its considerably darker than the pictures show and made getting ready very hard work, 1 night was enough for us.
