Babbacombe Bay, Devon
Devon's Most Irresistible Coastal Escape
Where the waves write your itinerary and the horizon belongs to you alone.
Perched dramatically above the shimmering waters of Babbacombe Bay, Cary Arms & Spa is one of those rare properties that genuinely earns the word 'escape'. Tucked into one of South Devon's most unspoilt coastal corners, this award-winning inn blends the warmth of a traditional seaside retreat with the polish of a contemporary luxury hotel. Choose from ten sea-facing rooms and suites at the inn itself, six beautifully restored fishermen's cottages steeped in maritime character, or the utterly covetable on-the-beach huts — falling asleep to the rhythm of the waves has never felt so indulgent. Every inch of accommodation is dressed with gloriously comfortable beds, crisp linens and curated coastal décor that feels effortlessly chic rather than contrived.

What They Say
“In November, we decided to spend a few days at The Cary Arms to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday—and what a fantastic decision it was. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. A complementary, chilled bottle of Prosecco awaited our arrival at our room, and when I say “room,” I really mean a wonderfully spacious, sumptuous, and immaculately clean beach hut. We also took our little dog with us, and he was just as well looked after as we were. The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, making it completely stress-free to travel with him and ensuring he felt right at home. The views from our hut were absolutely breathtaking, with the sound of waves crashing against the rocks making the whole experience truly unforgettable. The food was absolutely wonderful—from breakfast through to our evening meals, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Nick, the duty manager, along with every member of staff, was exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It’s no surprise that we’ve already booked to return for a few more days later this month to celebrate my birthday this time. We really couldn’t recommend this wonderful getaway highly enough.”
“We had a fantastic short stay at the Cary Arms, it was all we hoped for and more. The hotel and location is undoubtedly beautiful and was decorated so well for the Christmas celebrations. We loved staying in the beach suit, we had imagined calm waters and sunny skies, the weather didn’t deliver, but the stormy sea was just as exciting and thrilling. The suit was perfect and we really appreciated the bottle of champagne to celebrate our birthdays and 20th wedding anniversary, thank you also for the sloe gin, another special treat! The evening meal was delicious and we enjoyed taking our puddings and night cap in the Saloon, such a treat! We were thrilled to use the Spa and have it all to ourselves when we arrived - it was so relaxing and great for my knee operation recovery. We also had a massage together in the morning - a very welcome and professional experience, the ladies were lovely and very skilled. All in all we had a wonderful stay and hope we can repeat it one day. Many thanks to all your staff for making it a very special stay.”
“A 3-night stay at the Cary Arms & Spa in the Captains Family Suite did not disappoint! Incredible food - the Catch of the day and the Scallops were perfection. Fantastic views and New England decor. We stayed with our 8 year old daughter and she was made to feel so welcome, despite being one of the only children there at the time. The Spa (adults only) was very nicely maintained with a fabulous jet pool. We will definitely return!!”
“My husband and I decided to book a last minute visit for Sunday lunch at 2.15. We arrived, were shown to our window table and reminded that the kitchen closed at 2.30. We ordered our Sunday roast meals and I was a bit concerned that it would be the tail end of the roasts, but we had a fantastic plate of freshly cooked veg, potatoes, Yorkie puds and an impressive amount of meat. Very satisfied with service and location (and Temple spa wash/ lotions in the toilets!)”
“We booked a mini-honeymoon at the Cary Arms in one of their beach huts. The beach hut was amazing, with fabulous sea views. All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially Olivia. Breakfasts were brilliant with amazing quality food. The only (minor) criticism is that the coffee could be slightly better. We ate in the restaurant twice, and both times the food and the service were excellent. We used the spa twice, once for a general relax, and once for a massage - Rachel was great in the spa. The valet parking worked really well. There is a fairly steep hill to walk up to get into town, but that’s the price of the brilliant views (plus, it helped walk off some of our calories from the excellent food) My partner even saw Sammy the seal when she went for a swim in the sea. Overall, we had a brilliant time and would certainly come back. Recommended!”
