Valley Views, No Passport Required
Where Northumberland's wild beauty meets boutique warmth.
Perched above the sweeping Derwent Valley and set within 20 glorious acres of Northumberland countryside, Derwent Manor is the kind of retreat that makes you wonder why you ever booked a flight abroad. The manor house exudes a quietly confident charm, with accommodation spanning classic rooms, indulgent suites, and the jewel in the crown — the boutique cottages, which offer couples a sense of seclusion and romance that feels genuinely hard to find at this price point. Whether you settle into the Antler Bar with a cocktail as the valley light fades, or linger over Italian-inspired dishes at Prego Restaurant, every corner of the property seems designed to slow you down in the best possible way.
Afternoon tea here is a worthy occasion in its own right, and the leisure club ensures that even the most industrious of guests can justify another hour of doing absolutely nothing. Dog-friendly rooms mean the whole family — four-legged members included — can make the journey north, while the local walks practically beg to be explored with muddy boots and a clear head. For those with celebration on their minds, the wedding and events offering is polished and personal, making this a go-to destination for life's bigger moments.
Consett may not yet feature on every luxury traveller's radar, but that is precisely part of the appeal. Derwent Manor sits quietly confident in its setting, offering genuine countryside escapism without the Cotswolds price tag or the Cotswolds crowds. This is a staycation that earns its place on the shortlist — and, for many, will become an annual pilgrimage.

What They Say
“Absolutely love this place. Meets every need. Location is rural with beautiful views. Accomodation is prestige, stylish, with many grand pieces of decor. Lovely quality smelling toiletries in the clean modern cloak rooms. Prego restaurant provides a range of dishes to suit all tastes. I enjoyed a cooked to perfection Ribeye steak. Although have been a number of times we were here taking advantage of a new year deal. £99 Dinner 2courses bed and breakfast. Absolutely exceptional value for money. The staff .... Reception were efficient and friendly and professional, the hospitality staff albeit young were also working to a very high standard, smiling and methodically competant. Even the tradesmen we saw were polite. Overall I can't praise this place enough, it's a hidden gem.”
“Our break was lovely in every way from start to finish. The reception staff were very friendly, patient and helpful. Our room was truly amazing - the height of luxury - and the complimentary bottle of wine was a lovely touch that was greatly appreciated. Credit to Wendy for making it so nice. We dined in the bar that night and enjoyed our pizza, loaded fries, desserts and drinks. The bar and serving staff were very helpful and friendly. The same can also be said for the staff serving breakfast the following morning. All top quality. Even after we checked out, we chatted with a member of the maintenance team and they maintained the consistent levels of helpfulness and the warmest of welcomes. This was the first time my wife and l visited Derwent Manor but certainly not the last. We plan to return as often as we can.”
“Stayed here yesterday and was amazing service! Food was lovely and quite quick to be served. Staff member named Dan was absolutely mint, Netflix wasn’t working in the room we first got put in so he came straight down and moved us into an even better, upgraded room where it was working perfectly, all done straight away! Brilliant service. Would definitely stay again all the staff are friendly none were ignorant like most places. From my experience, the only thing someone could complain about is the heat inside the hotel as it’s extremely hot. Will be back!”
“Afternoon tea, Wednesday 07/01/2026. Beautiful afternoon tea served by lovelyJoseph went above and beyond to be brilliantly hospitable and even kept the fire lit for us. The food, presentation and service was out of this world. We had a wonderful afternoon. Thanks Joseph and Derwent Manor for making our afternoon a wonderful experience . We will continue to keep returning for always good food and friendly service 😊”
“Stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms are stunning, clean & have everything you need. The beds are so comfy and the views are incredible. The grounds are just so beautiful with the swimming pool & gym being a great feature (also with a beautiful view!). The pool table, darts & games area is a fab touch and my son loved that. The food, whilst a little pricey (but no more pricey than a restaurant), is absolutely gorgeous. The breakfast was tasty with so much variety and the dining room is a comfortable place to eat. The only thing that was a little bit of a let down was some of the staff. Gary (maintenance) was fab and the ladies on reception were brilliant. There was a guy in the bar who was lovely and seemed to know what he was doing & how to treat guests. The others, in the hotel & the pool, not so much. I actually think quite a lot of the staff may be new to the role (that was my assumption) so I let the annoyances go. A learning curve perhaps. All in all, we had an amazing time and wouldn’t hesitate to come back again. Thank you for the stay.”
