Fowlescombe Farm in Devon — Farm Stay

Devon

Where Luxury Meets the Land

A National Geographic-crowned Devon farm where extraordinary comfort and honest country life exist in perfect, unhurried harmony.

Tucked into the rolling patchwork of the South Hams, Fowlescombe Farm is that rarest of discoveries — a working farm that has been elevated into something altogether extraordinary. A National Geographic award-winner, this Devon retreat has earned its accolades honestly, marrying the honest rhythms of agricultural life with accommodations that would not look out of place in a glossy design hotel. Think exposed beams and heritage stonework softened by carefully chosen furnishings, where the lowing of cattle at dusk is the only soundtrack you need.

Families will find themselves genuinely enchanted here, drawn into the daily life of the farm in ways that feel authentic rather than choreographed. Children collect eggs at dawn, adults sip something cold on a terrace overlooking fields that seem to stretch to the edge of the world, and somehow, within hours, the noise of modern life simply dissolves. It is the kind of place that reminds you what a proper holiday is supposed to feel like — unhurried, grounding, and quietly joyful.

For the luxury seeker who has grown weary of identikit five-star hotels, Fowlescombe offers something far more precious: genuine character. Devon's lanes deliver you here, and once arrived, you will find every reason to stay just one more night. Book it before someone else does.

Fantastic! A unique, special place to stay. We loved the ethos and learning about regenerative farming. Outstanding sustainability sourced food much of which comes from the gardens or locally. Our dog got so spoiled by the amazing staff ( including getting a delicious Tamworth sausage for breakfast) she didn’t want to leave. We loved chatting to the chefs in the informal dining setting, especially John who kindly gave me a lesson in pasta making. There were too many other members of the team to mention individually but without exception all were friendly and helpful. I even got my muddy wellies cleaned! Thank you for a wonderful stay. We’d love to return

We had a fantastic weekend at Fowlescombe. The farm is a perfect place to relax, enjoy nature and eat and drink extremely well. The staff are all so warm, welcoming and friendly and instantly made us feel at home. The food was all locally sourced and every dish was delicious without exception. You can choose to eat at the communal dining table, which we did and enjoyed meeting some lovely new people. It’s in a great location, close enough to the coast for little trips out, close to Dartmoor for walking but also set in its own farmland so it feels private and secluded. We’ll definitely be going back.

We loved our stay at Fowlescombe Farm. The setting, accommodation and food were all equally exceptional. Our room (Valley Suite) was spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches such as a Dyson hairdryer and Miele appliances. We really liked the layout with the refectory as the central hub and the old cottage with its cosy lounge and fireplace. The staff were absolutely fantastic—especially with children. We enjoyed the farm tour (brilliant for both adults and kids) and little touches like morning egg collection, and the chefs were always happy to prepare kids’ meals for tea. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, and their warm, personable approach made us feel instantly at home. Elly’s cooking (and that of the whole kitchen team) was outstanding; breakfast and lunch were consistently delicious. Fowlescombe is a rare blend of exceptional hospitality, fantastic food, beautiful landscapes and thoughtful design. The surrounding area is great too, with lots of coastal towns within a short drive. We can't wait to return.

Wow - what a place. Part of me doesn’t want to write this review so I can keep the secret of Fowlescombe to myself! Through work I regularly stay in 5* boutique and unique hotels around the world, so Fowlescombe Farm had a lot to live up to. However this is honestly one of the best I’ve ever been to. We stayed for one night (totally unrelated to my work and just a weekend getaway) but truly could have stayed for two weeks. The team at Fowlescombe have created the perfect balance of style and luxury but with so much authenticity and modesty that not one part of it felt pretentious. We were made to feel at home the second we stepped through the door, and every single member of staff treated us like long time friends. They are all so knowledgeable and passionate about what they do that it’s hard not to come away inspired. I’m not sure I have the right words to describe the food; farm-to-table, cooked from the heart and prepared right in front of you in their open kitchen by some of the country’s top chefs. Everything we ate and drank was outstanding. We loved exploring the farm to see where our food came from; we collected fresh eggs from the hens and picked apples to feed the piglets. Outside of this we explored their walking trails and warmed up afterwards playing board games in front of the cozy fire. If you are reading this and debating any other well known ‘countryside-chic’ hotels in the Devon area, choose Fowlescombe. You will not regret it!

My husband and I had a fabulous stay here. Would absolutely recommend to everyone. When we arrived we were given a very warm welcome by Wendy who showed us around the beautiful gardens and to the very lovely rooms (we stayed in the Farmhouse). The walks around the farm and across the moors are beautiful and I would definitely recommend to anyone keen for a bit of an atmospheric explore across some farm and forest. Our dinner and breakfast were absolutely fantastic, we really enjoyed the communal dining element and watching the chefs (impressively calmly) at work. For one of our courses we had what we think is the best risotto either of us have ever had (truly). Thank you for such a gorgeous stay and particular thanks to Wendy for making us feel so welcome and looked after.
