Llangammarch Wells, Powys
Wales, Distilled to Pure Stillness
Where ancient Welsh landscapes meet languid lakeside luxury, and time obligingly slows to a gentle ripple.
Tucked into 50 acres of landscaped grounds along the banks of the River Irfon, Lake Country House Hotel & Spa is one of Wales's most quietly compelling retreats. Originally built in 1840 as a hunting and fishing lodge, this beautifully restored Powys gem sits between the national parks of Eryri and Bannau Brycheiniog — a storied setting that lends every visit an unhurried, almost timeless quality. Individually styled rooms dressed in vintage furnishings and sumptuous fabrics feel like private sanctuaries, and the 50 acres of woodland walks and lakeside paths beyond your window make it near impossible to contemplate leaving.

“Oh my goodness what a find! This country house is not modern, but it was beautiful and spotless! We booked for Sunday lunch, we drove past the property initially, parked on the road outside as weren’t sure where to park. We were welcomed into the Drawing room we sat on comfy sofas near the window looking across the grounds with the fires roaring in the background. Drinks menu was plentiful, we were brought our drinks while we reviewed the menu. The choice was not too much but something for everyone and it all sounded delicious. The Dinning room was beautiful, clean and the service was good. Food was delicious, excellent value!”
“A fantastic stay, much more than expected. All the staff were super friendly, welcoming, helpful, professional and always at hand. Location was stunning, amazing view from the room of the stream and river. Very comfy beds and large size. Lovely spa facilities, super hot undercover outdoor jacuzzi was incredible and so special. Had full body massage one of the best I've had. So many additional extras including a scrub, hot towel on feet and range ofstunning scents. The food was amazing, great choice- limited so made sure what was provided was good quality. Lovely option of being able to have a relax in the lounge for a pre drink before dinner and added extra of canapés. Would have been nice to hear the staff use Welsh, saying a simple bore da,considering the location. Would have been nice to be able to control temperature in own room. Also, it would be better to have a cold shower next to the poolside for easy access after pool, sauna, stream room. A very special stay in the heart of Wales, great to enjoy the beauty in a relaxed atmosphere, being made to feel special at each moment.”
“We have been visiting the Lake Country House hotel for over 10 years and it never disappoints. The food and service is just incredible. The hotel is in a beautiful location, clean, well kept and has a grand feel but without feeling pretentious. Children and dogs are welcomed but they carefully manage to ensure those looking for a more quiet stay are not disappointed. Basically, they cater for everyone. The spa is lovely, quiet and the treatments are to die for. It’s our favourite place to stay in the uk. Thank you for making my husbands 40th birthday weekend so memorable.”
“One of our favourite locations in the UK. Stunning countryside hotel with character and charm. The staff are amazing and always on hand to ensure your stay is a wonderful experience. The grounds are stunning with lots of local walks. The spa is relaxing and there is plenty of choice when it comes to treatments. The food is excellent whether you're having the full dining experience or eating from the bar menu and the wine list is incredible. Amazing place that you won't want to leave.”
“We had a Christmas break here with the family. We stayed in The Coach House as there was 8 of us. The Coach House is a very well appointed house with 4 en-suite double rooms with 2 seperate living areas and good sized outside patio area. The rooms are well decorated and of good size. We dined in the hotel twice and whilst I felt the set menus were limited and expensive however the quality of the food was very high. We sat in the bar and played board games in amongst and really festive setting with lots of effort put into the Christmas Decorations. Pierre the owner could not have been more welcoming as were the rest of the staff. The grounds are lovely and we had a wonderful Christmas staying here. Highly recommended 👌”
