Adventure Meets Elegance in Langdale

Where Lakeland wilderness and spa-soft luxury conspire to make you never want to leave.

Nestled in the heart of the magnificent Great Langdale Estate, the Langdale Hotel & Spa is that rare and wonderful thing: a retreat that refuses to let you simply sit still. With the jagged peaks of the Langdale Pikes as your backdrop and acres of rolling estate grounds at your doorstep, this four-star Cumbrian gem strikes a beguiling balance between restorative indulgence and genuine adventure. Whether you surrender to the skilled hands of the spa therapists or lace up your boots for the celebrated Fairfield Horseshoe, every moment here feels purposeful and alive.

The hotel wears its #LangdaleAdventure philosophy with infectious enthusiasm. Guests can swap their plush robes for wetsuits and discover the wild swimming secrets of Coniston Water, take to the forest trails of Grizedale on two wheels, or find themselves charmed by a private launch drifting lazily across Windermere. Even the most committed urbanite will feel the pull of the estate's farm experience — a joyful, grounding encounter with the Cumbrian landscape that children and adults alike will talk about long after the journey home.

At the end of each exhilarating day, the Langdale's elegant rooms and modern spa therapies offer precisely the sanctuary you have earned. Mid-range in price but abundantly generous in spirit, this is the Lakes at their most captivating — wild enough to stir the soul, comfortable enough to make you linger. Book it, and book it soon.

What They Say

Another wonderful stay at The Langdale Estate, and once again it lived up to everything I love about this place. The location and surrounding estate are absolutely beautiful — peaceful, scenic and perfect for switching off, while still being well placed for exploring. It’s not far from Ambleside, Windermere and Kendal, which makes it ideal if you want a mix of relaxation and days out. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Our room was cosy, clean and inviting — exactly what you want after a day out in the Lakes. Breakfast at Stove was excellent, with a perfect mix of options and always plenty to go around. The spa was also beautiful, spotless and very relaxing — a real highlight. This was our second stay at Langdale, and it certainly won’t be our last. I will always recommend it and look forward to returning again. I only mark down the location based on the fact I feel like if you didn't have a car to access the Hotel/Estate - you could really struggle.

My partner booked this for my birthday and we had a lovely stay at The Langdale Hotel & Brimstone Spa. We stayed for two nights and everything was great. Room service arrived really quickly, the restaurant was lovely, and breakfast on both mornings was fresh and well done. All the staff were so attentive and friendly, which really stood out and made it a pleasure to be there. We did the 3-hour thermal spa experience with the deli platter, which was a great addition. The spa was really quiet when we went on Friday afternoon. I think the time we made potentially made a difference to how quiet it felt as it did feel busier at breakfast on Saturday — but overall it was still very relaxing. I’ve seen some comments saying it isn’t great value for money, but travelling from London we felt it was worth it. Although it cost more than £500, we had so much more included — two nights, breakfast, food and a spa day. In London you’d easily pay £500 just for a nice hotel room for two nights, often without breakfast or any extras. The Roomy Lakeland Signature Room was beautiful and the bed was huge and incredibly comfortable. We’d definitely return.

Had a lovely festive stay at the langdale and enjoyed the Brimstone Spa as an extra treat. All staff across all sites were lovely and very accommodating and flexible. Enjoyed our deli platter in the spa , the gentleman serving us in the spa went above and beyond yesterday, he really made us feel welcome & went out his way for me . Also enjoyed our evening meal & a great breakfast at the stove. See you next year.

Tony- fitness & leisure manager is exceptionally good! As a Langdale Lodge owner myself, I didn’t use the gym/studios at all last year because of my mental health struggles/feeling unwelcome at langdale last year and overall anxiety about training in a gym environment away from my home gym! . Tony reassured me that I would be okay to use the gym, pool and studio facilities. He ensured that he checked in to see if I was okay, if I needed any water, blue roll and advised me where the gym sanitation equipment was a PT myself and a clean freak! Tony went above and beyond to ensure I enjoyed coming to the gym and I came every day to his leisure facilities. Him and his team ensured they made me feel at ease always.Tony is very professional and sets a great example for his team to follow! He discussed that he was doing his personal training course and I would pay money to have a session with him at Langdale because of his great personality and calm nature. Jamie- leisure attendant was exceptionally welcoming and came to assistance when my towel was drenched through and I was panicking about having a wet towel! As a leisure host myself, I know how inconvenient it can be for members to not have a towel. She also treated me with a warm and welcoming smile. I donated fidget toys for the children at Langdale and herself and Sam who was always very caring and professional came to collect my donations from the Lodge because neurodiversity is amazing.Theres a pool table/ coffee facilities, a kids club but all children from neurodiversity deserve a time to express themselves and calm through fidget toys and colouring books etc. FLOC is a great way to utilise children and young people as well as older people to do their office work, however as a suggestion time slots may be good for all owners and guests to feel comfortable attending FLOC as it can be overwhelming as I struggle to keep quiet!! Sam always remembered my name which was a personalised touch. None of them were ever on their phones or distracted which I found extremely professional and they looked happy to be at work!! Drew understood when I found some dusty screws and was happy that I handed them In for obvious reasons.Drew always said hello and checked in when I saw him walking around the complex in between his lunch break! Thank you Drew for your genuine support, kindness and motivation with using the leisure facilities on site! Millie was exceptionally warm and welcoming and knowledgeable and understand my concerns regarding your timetable and told me about the suggestion box which I made a few suggestions to during my stay! Stacey had a great personality and told me about her work and how nice it is to be blessed with nature which was reassuring for myself wanting to relocate to somewhere like Langdale to work! Stacey helped me use the very flash coffee machine and ensured I knew how to use it and pay to it using your new system! Steven- exceptionally helpful with queries I had! Stephen- stove manager made me feel comfortable wearing a local football shirt in the restaurant because id never have got stopped before wearing one or even greeted with a smile! Ruth, Hayden/Hannah/ Irana treated me with genuine care and respect. I spilt hot choc as I fell off the sofa but they insisted they’d clean it which made me feel at ease and less anxious! Thank you to everyone who made my time at Langdale an unforgettable one The full team and maintenance all deserve to be recognised as they are genuinely ensuring a smooth operation of the full site. Leadership were very understanding when dealing with an ambulance for myself and treated me with genuine care and respect, they did a welfare check on me to ensure how I was feeling after I was discharged. Teiko is a great guy who sets a great example to his team- his cocktails are exceptional! I would highly recommend Langdale to anyone of all ages, it is now my haven, home from home. Thanks to your amazing new team and leadership team who all work exceptionally hard to ensure everyone feels welcome! Highly recommend ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

*AVOID AT ALL COSTS * I booked a spacious room and paid extra specifically for comfort and space. When we arrived, we were put into a disabled-access room that was nothing like what we booked. The room was cold, dark, and dingy, took ages to warm up had to ask maintenance to come and sort out the heating, and had no bath which we did request and pay extra for. The shower didn’t drain properly, so the bathroom floor was constantly soaked. It honestly felt more like a bare, temporary flat than the upgraded room we had paid for. My Husband raised the issues with reception straight away, but we were told nothing could be done at the time and that it would be passed to a manager. Unfortunately, no notes were made about this, which only highlights how poorly complaints are handled. To make matters worse, I fell ill with a chest infection during the stay, and the freezing room made it impossible to stay a second night. We left because the room simply wasn’t usable or suitable. Despite all of this, management has refused to refund the second night and has even said they “cannot justify” doing so because the complaint wasn’t logged properly by their own staff. We paid for a specific standard of room and did not receive it. The replacement room was sub-standard, uncomfortable, and unsuitable, and the lack of proper complaint handling afterwards has been incredibly disappointing. Given the circumstances (on our honeymoon), the response from management has been far below what I would expect from a professional hospitality business. I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere until they address both the room quality issues and the way complaints are handled.
