Where chocolates, spa rituals and breathtaking lake vistas conspire to make leaving utterly unthinkable.
Perched above the shimmering waters of Lake Windermere, Linthwaite House is the kind of retreat that makes you wonder why you ever leave the country at all. This intimate boutique country house hotel captures everything that makes the Lake District so enduringly magical — rolling green hills, panoramic lake views, and an atmosphere of quiet, unhurried elegance. “Amazing service from start to finish at this hotel. From pre check-in we were greeted with amazing hospitality as we needed to change our room to accommodate bringing a kitten and the hotel were very helpful. When we arrived the greeting was very warm and Chris who was waiting to take our cases in was fantastic, a real standout member of the team. We stayed in Fell Suite 4 which doesn't have a hot tub but has the best view of Windermere. The Fell suites are very comfortable with lots of space, amazing amenities, and are faultless to be totally honest. The TV and tech is setup so you can connect everything you need with ease which is a big plus. The bedroom was very spacious and again came with an amazing view. Breakfast is good, dinner less so. I would suggest eating here over Henrock as the food is on par and much cheaper. Cocktails are a little overpriced at £19. A little Christmas music would have been a good way to create a more festive atmosphere but that's just me being picky and a lover of the season. Overall, we would come back and stay but not eat but don't be put off by that, the location, rooms and service are the best we have experienced in the area and will bring us back again.”
“We've been here a few times, and we always arrive early to appreciate the hotel's elegant and peaceful surroundings. This visit was all about trying the new bar menu, which offers a more relaxed atmosphere in the conservatory, with larger portions and the same high standards as their sister restaurant. Every dish impressed us, but the Mushroom Pappardelle and Croissant Bread & Butter Pudding stole the show 😘. We had an unforgettable day, and we're already looking forward to our next visit!”
“we stayed under their new years eve two night tasting menu experiance, service was very very good, they go above and beyond, only person i didnt gel with was the tall gent on reception, three encounters where i found him just rude - everyone else was top notch. cute hotel, good vibe in the evening, beers were a bit naff, but wine, cocktails etc were clearly their area of strength. tasting menu was great, first night was mis-advertised as a three course dinner, not small tasting menu so i went extremely hungry the first night, but the main event (NYE) was fantastic - boy did they pull all the stops out. Shout out to Tim (i think) who emailed me our lake pass after i dropped it on a walk enabling us to go on over 1 hour cruse around the lake, would reccomend.”
“We had a lovely afternoon tea here at the Linthwaite House. The service was warm and attentive, the tea selection excellent, and the food delicious—the beetroot sandwich was a standout and the scones were perfect. A truly delightful experience!”
“During our trip to Windermere, my family and I stopped at Linthwaite House for lunch at their restaurant, The Bar and Conservatory. The ambience inside was beautiful, but since the weather was surprisingly good, we chose to sit outside and enjoy the stunning views of the lakes. It was truly breathtaking. From the very beginning, we were warmly welcomed by Karen, Jasmine, and Peppe, which set the tone for a wonderful welcome experience. Now, about the food, it was absolutely exceptional. For starters, we had the beetroot and goat cheese salad, which was fresh and perfectly balanced in texture and taste. The combination of goat cheese, beetroot, mustard cress, and spiced cashew nuts worked beautifully together. For the mains, we tried several dishes: The 6oz pure beef burger, which was very flavorful. The beer-battered haddock & chips, easily one of the best I’ve ever had in Windermere. The Cumbrian herb-fed chicken breast stuffed with mushroom and Lune Valley black pudding, which was hearty and well-prepared. And finally, the star of the show—the Lune Valley lamb saddle with croquette. This dish was simply perfect. The lamb was cooked to perfection, the croquette was something I could eat all day, and the garnishes tied everything together. The pastrami reform sauce was out of this world; it made every bite unforgettable. I even had the pleasure of meeting their head chef, Gerald. What an incredible talent and personality! The service throughout was flawless. Vitor and Ollie ensured everything was seamless, reflecting true professionalism and care. A special mention also to Chris, who looked after us during our time at the property with great attention and kindness. Overall, it was a dining experience to remember. I look forward to visiting again and will gladly recommend The Bar and Conservatory to anyone seeking fine dining, spectacular views, and genuine hospitality.”
