Upper Slaughter, Gloucestershire
Where History Pours Like Honey
Eight acres of Cotswolds splendour, steeped in 1649 and seasoned with four AA Rosettes.
Tucked into the impossibly pretty village of Upper Slaughter, Lords of the Manor is the Cotswolds distilled to its golden essence. Dating back to 1649, this 25-bedroom honey-stone manor sits within eight acres of lawns and grandiose gardens, where centuries of history whisper through every carefully tended hedgerow. Holding four AA Red Stars as an Inspector's Choice property and an impressive four AA Rosettes for its restaurant, this is a place that takes both comfort and culinary excellence with equal seriousness — and delivers on both with quiet, assured confidence.
The dining here is nothing short of a destination in itself. Good Food Guide listed and critically acclaimed, whether you settle in for a long dinner, a leisurely lunch or a proper afternoon tea, the kitchen produces food that lingers in the memory long after you've returned to ordinary life. Spacious family rooms make this an inspired choice for multigenerational escapes, while the romantic seclusion of the grounds ensures couples feel equally at home. Four-legged family members are warmly welcomed too, making Lords of the Manor a rare luxury that accommodates the whole household.
With a 4.5-star rating drawn from nearly 1,600 reviews, the consensus is resounding: this is somewhere genuinely special. Whether you're drawn by the prospect of waking to Cotswolds countryside, lingering over a rosette-worthy dinner or simply doing absolutely nothing in surroundings of considerable beauty, Lords of the Manor makes an effortless case for staying closer to home.

What They Say
“Lords of the Manor is an outstanding country hotel that delivers warmth and hospitality in a way that truly stands out, and the service on our recent stay was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, Neil at the front desk set the tone for our stay with his impeccable professionalism, genuine warmth and proactive help with every request. Nothing ever felt transactional; he consistently went out of his way to check in on our comfort, offer thoughtful suggestions (especially on charging our car) and make us feel like valued guests rather than just another booking. Sydney at the front desk was also very warm welcoming and hugely informative especially with our queries. One of the highlights of our stay was also the elderly red‑haired lady on the team who greeted our dog with such sincere kindness, fussing over her and offering a treat that absolutely made her day. Her gentle manner and obvious affection for four‑legged guests captured the spirit of a hotel that not only allows dogs but genuinely welcomes them as part of the family. Service at Lords of the Manor felt wonderfully personalised with staff quickly remembering our preferences, and tailoring their interactions accordingly. Special mention of the gentleman (with a beard - sorry don’t recall his name!) who was serving us at the restaurant - and was excellent. From thoughtful check‑ins at reception to small touches throughout the property, there is a consistent sense that the team take real pride in ensuring every guest has a special, individually memorable stay. The overall atmosphere is one of relaxed elegance, where the beauty of the house and grounds is matched by the genuine warmth of everyone working there. Thanks to Neil and the wonderful red‑haired lady staff member in particular, Lords of the Manor now feels like a place we will happily return to again and again, and it is recommended wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a luxurious yet deeply welcoming Cotswolds escape with or without a dog.”
“A luxury hotel that truly delivers on top quality service from start to finish, with an extra special mention to the quality of the food. We dined in the main dining room for a 3-course meal and then the next evening in the Atrium, for the 10-course tasting menu and the food was exceptional. I must also add though breakfast did not disappoint either. We have nothing but positives to say about our stay and the staff know how to deliver top notch service. Long may it continue, highly recommended.”
“This is probably one of the best places I have stayed at to date. The location was stunning, we had 2 rooms and both were beautiful and clean and the staff were all fantastic! The only downside was that they were the only hotel and restaurant in Upper Slaughter. We will definitely be returning here next time we are in the UK!”
“Beautiful hotel with a great atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which really made the experience enjoyable. Special thanks to Sydney, who was super helpful in arranging a taxi back to town and made everything very smooth. Highly recommend this place for the service and overall experience!”
“What a beautiful and idyllic two-night stay we just had at the LOTM hotel! From the warmth of service and the charm of the rooms, to the beautiful sprawling English countryside that surrounds the hotel - everything, and I repeat, everything was perfect. Everyone who works there are sweethearts - special shout-out to Noon and the kitchen staff for being able to get us our afternoon tea despite us being late for it! Also - you will sleep like a baby here because you'll experience what true silence feels like at night! We'll be back 🥰”
