Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa in Windermere, Cumbria — Lakeside Resort

Windermere, Cumbria

Windermere's Lakeside Playground Awaits

Where the stillness of the Lakes meets the thrill of the water.

Perched on the glittering shores of England's most beloved lake, Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is one of the Lake District's most enviable addresses. With Windermere stretching out before you in all its silver-grey splendour, this is a staycation that trades the ordinary for something altogether more cinematic. Whether you arrive chasing adventure or simply the restorative quiet of lakeside air, Low Wood Bay has the rare gift of delivering both in equal measure.

For families, the appeal is immediate and irresistible. A full complement of water sports sits right on the doorstep — kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing all beckon from the private lake frontage — while younger guests discover that a holiday doesn't need a passport to feel genuinely thrilling. When the Cumbrian skies do what they occasionally must, the indoor pool and spa provide a seamlessly warm retreat, with treatments designed to leave you feeling as languid and unhurried as the lake itself.

Mid-range in price but generous in spirit, Low Wood Bay strikes that pleasing balance between accessible and aspirational. It's the kind of place that lingers in the memory long after the drive home through those dramatic fells — part family adventure, part grown-up escape, and entirely, unmistakably Lake District. Book before the secret spreads any further.

What They Say

We have stayed here twice now , and absolutely love it . The rooms are really lovely, clean, and sooo comfortable. Gorgeous ESPA products to use in the bathrooms .we had a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room on both occasions, and this time, we were given some lovely gingerbread from the famous Grasmere gingerbread shop, on check in . The staff are so lovely and helpful. The breakfast is really great, with lots of delicious choices. The blue smoke restaurant, the W restaurant and the bar food are all also excellent. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. You won't be disappointed 😀

What a beautiful spa and retreat. The spa has a variety of saunas and steam rooms with varying experiences and temperatures. Both indoor and outdoor pools with stunning views of the lake Windermere. Staff are attentive and available to order drinks from wherever you are in the spa. The complementary hot chocolates and brownies were a lovely touch handed out by the staff throughout the experience. We also thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the hotel rooms were modern and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was a good quality and had plenty of choice. Having stayed in room 313 I would say the corridor in this section of the hotel felt a little dated and in need of a revamp as it didn’t match the setting of the lovely rooms and hotel foyer. Couldn’t recommend this hotel and spa more such a special experience in a stunning part of the Lakes.

I visited for the rise and dine spa experience on 27/12/25 as a treat from my partner for our anniversary while we are staying in the Lakes for Christmas. The place is absolutely beautiful. It’s spotlessly clean everywhere and the thermal spa was out of this world. The service from the every single staff member was 5*. Was so lovely sitting with a glass of Prosecco in the hot tub overlooking the stunning view of the lake. The views were stunning and the food was delicious. Again the service was 5* after very kindly moving me to another table due to the glare of the low sun. Nothing was too much trouble. We have booked to come back to the lakes again next Christmas and I’ll definitely be visiting again but maybe for longer.

I booked both the spa and the hotel at Low Wood to celebrate my partner’s 30th birthday, along with therapy for myself and my own wellbeing, and the whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. All of the staff went above and beyond to make her day feel truly special. A special thank you to the manager, Sophia, who was incredibly helpful throughout. She resolved every question I had, was very welcoming, and clearly knowledgeable, which made everything feel smooth and stress-free. Thank you to everyone at the spa and the hotel for such wonderful service, and also a big thank you to the staff at the Blue Smoke restaurant for looking after us so well. We’ll definitely be back!

Spa is amazing. Facilities are great. Hotel is fantastic. Staff are brilliant. Service is fantastic. Very good value for money. Will be staying again 100%. Now here’s the downside. After having an amazing 2 days in the spa and hotel costing just short of £800 and a good few £100’s in drink and food spent in the hotel. You get a little bill under Your door for parking at £12 per day which feels a little bit like, we are just trying to squeeze a last little bit extra out of you. As it doesn’t seem to be for any other reason than just for the sake of making a little extra. And as it’s your final experience of what was a fantastic 2 days it leaves it all a little bit bittersweet. The small amount of the bill is irrelevant it’s the point that it’s your final experience of the hotel.
