Lympstone Manor Hotel Restaurant & Vineyard in Exmouth, Devon — Country House Hotel

Exmouth, Devon

Devon's Most Gloriously Indulgent Retreat

Where Michelin stars, estate vines, and museum-worthy art converge on the Exe Estuary.

Tucked into the rolling hills above the Exe Estuary, Lympstone Manor is one of those rare properties that renders the very concept of 'abroad' entirely unnecessary. This exquisite Relais & Châteaux country house hotel in the heart of Devon combines Georgian grandeur with an extraordinary living art collection, ensuring that every corridor, every staircase landing, every thoughtfully appointed room offers a fresh visual delight. The vineyard stretching across the estate's sun-warmed slopes adds an almost continental ease to proceedings, producing wines that speak unmistakably of this quietly spectacular corner of England.

At the heart of the manor's allure is its Michelin-starred dining, a culinary experience that draws devotees from across the country and rightly so. Chef Michael Caines — the visionary force behind Lympstone — has crafted a menu that celebrates the extraordinary larder of the West Country with both rigour and romance. Paired with estate-grown vintages and the kind of unhurried, impeccable service that only a true Relais & Châteaux property can deliver, dinner here is not merely a meal but an occasion to be savoured and long remembered.

For those who find themselves torn between a gallery, a vineyard tour, and simply staring out across the glittering estuary with a glass of something lovely in hand, Lympstone Manor presents a glorious dilemma. This is a staycation that does not ask you to compromise — on beauty, on taste, or on the lingering sense that, for these few days at least, life is being lived precisely as it should be.

What They Say

I went for lunch with friends. The food was beautifully presented, exquisitely cooked and the service was excellent. It is perfect for anyone who has 'been there, eaten that' because you can't fail to be amazed by the love and attention given to each course. Definitely the place for a romantic meal, as 4 courses won't leave you feeling too full for a romantic evening afterwards. That said, the cost is more due to all the work put into lovingly creating each dish, not the number of calories, so a trencherman might be left wishing that the portions of the main course were a little more generous.

We had an excellent time at Lympstone Manor. From the moment we stepped through the front door on arrival until we left, the team were very welcoming and friendly with an understated professionalism. We have dined before and once again the food was excellent; the look, design and flavour of the dishes could not be faulted. We felt very special being able to enjoy such a wonderful experience. The team were great and it’s the little details and touches that make all the difference. We were even surprised by the team on our recent engagement with some petit fours. Truly luxurious.

Maybe we didn’t book the right room, but thought it felt tired. Didn’t really work for us as a family, pool restaurant shut and it was suggested that our kids eat outside on the terrace whilst it was 11 degrees. Gidleigh Park better for adults and Bovey Castle better for families, just my view. Pretty spot overlooking the estuary however.

We experienced a lunch and it was lovely, great service. Breakfast was tasty especially full English. Love the glass door into the kitchen. But the beds mattresses are 10 years old and definitely need replacing. So when you book your stay ask the question.

We had an amazing stay at the Lympstone Manor Hotel. We were a couple travelling with our dog. The welcome we received and treatment by the staff was superb... the hotel restaurant, grounds and accommodation are stunning. The food was epic. We hope to return and would strongly recommend booking this beautiful hotel/restaurant.
