Middleton Lodge in Richmond, North Yorkshire — Country House Hotel

Richmond, North Yorkshire

Yorkshire's Most Lovingly Kept Secret

Where Georgian grandeur meets Michelin-starred stillness on a storied North Yorkshire estate.

Tucked into the rolling landscape of North Yorkshire, Middleton Lodge is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever considered leaving the country for a holiday. This lovingly restored Georgian homestead, set across a scatter of historic estate buildings near the market town of Richmond, offers something increasingly rare: a sense of arrival, of having truly escaped. Each room has been individually designed, meaning no two stays are quite alike, and the layers of history woven into the stone and timber feel like a quiet gift to those who care to notice.

The estate's Forge restaurant has earned serious culinary recognition — three Michelin recommendations that speak for themselves — and a 2025 Food and Drink Award that confirms what guests have quietly known for years: this is destination dining of the highest order. Whether you're settling in for a candlelit tasting menu or a long, unhurried lunch, the kitchen's commitment to the landscape it sits within is unmistakable. Foodies will find themselves booking return visits before the dessert plates are cleared.

For those in need of deeper restoration, the Forest Spa offers a retreat within a retreat — a place to exhale completely. Couples in particular will find Middleton Lodge irresistible: romantic without being contrived, luxurious without a trace of stuffiness. Yorkshire has always rewarded those who look closely, and Middleton Lodge is its finest proof.

What They Say

We got married at Middleton Lodge and can’t thank everybody enough for making the weekend so special for us. We had an amazing time, and it was largely down to the brilliant organisation from Steph and Rosie, and immaculate attention to detail from all of the staff on the day and over the weekend. We had visited the venue numerous times in the lead up to the wedding and always loved it from our own experiences but it was so nice to receive feedback that all of our guests loved it as much as us. Everybody was so complimentary of how smoothly the day ran, how amazing the food was and how beautiful the venue and all of the rooms were, something we had already experienced but that felt even better on this occasion. Whilst every member of staff that we encountered from the Coach House team was great, we would like to give special mention to Tom, who exemplifies customer service at the highest level. He went above and beyond all weekend to ensure we were happy with everything, including sorting out a bit of a mix up with the private room on the Friday night. Every person we dealt with throughout the process was so helpful and we could not be happier that we chose Middleton Lodge for our wedding weekend. We will continue to go back again and again and would highly recommend it as a place to get married but also as a place to spend a long weekend as well. A very special place!

My husband and I were married at Middleton Lodge on 22nd November 2025, and in a word, it was sensational. From start to finish, the entire experience was seamless. The venue itself is breathtaking - elegant, cosy, and the epitome of quiet luxury. All of the food we had was truly outstanding: from our wedding meal, the Gin Terrace, breakfast, and the Coach House. The spa is also absolutely gorgeous - the perfect retreat during an already magical stay. The staff were exceptional, consistently going above and beyond to make our whole experience perfect. The events and wedding team truly made our wedding what it was, we couldn’t have done it without them. A special thank you goes to Evie, our incredible wedding coordinator, whose support and expertise were invaluable. Middleton Lodge will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and we will absolutely make every effort to return. Highly, wholeheartedly recommended.

Wow... where to start! We got married at the Fig House and Walled Garden this week and it was absolutely beautiful, and an incredible day from start to finish. The gardens are stunning and so vibrant, and The Fig House itself looks just like an Italian villa. Our wedding coordinator was Evie, and I don't think there could have been anyone more dedicated or more wonderful at her job. Evie was exceptional from the early planning stages to the end of our day, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for her. All of our guests were raving about how delicious the food was and how smoothly the day ran, and I must agree that the canapes were to die for! Ross, who led the catering and service team, was phenomenal and such a lovely personality to have around on the day. I stayed at Middleton Lodge in a dairy estate room the night before, and the honeymoon suite the following day and both rooms were exquisitely decorated and looked as if they'd been plucked from a Neptune showroom. If we could give more than 5 stars we would. If you are considering having your wedding here, I promise you won't regret it. Evie, thank you so much for everything, we are eternally grateful.

It was mine and my mums first time here at the Forest spa to celebrate her birthday in the new year which was well needed. We booked the day spa package for midday which included a two course lunch, a 60 minute treatment and use of the spa facilities until late afternoon/evening. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive service from all the staff members. We felt at home immediately. We haven't had the greatest experiences from other local spas that you pay so much money for but are left disappointed with the lack of service and not so great treatments. I was nervous of trying somewhere new and didn't want my mums birthday surprise to not live up to expectations. Not here! The spa is exceptionally clean, organised, homely and every aspect of the spa and how it flows just works perfectly. Consultation forms, menus etc were all ready and organised and given to us along with a lovely drink while these were filled out. We noticed how everything from the flooring/storage lockers were warm and not once were we cold or freezing. The facilities we decided to use (the pool and jacuzzi) were so warm and what we needed on a cold day in January! Katie and Beeba were two of the staff members that we came across and that were extremely attentive and checked in on us throughout the day to check everything was okay and if we needed any more drinks/food or just if we had any questions. They were just simply lovely and very nice girls to speak with during our spa day. We had a couple of lovely bellini drinks throughout the day and nothing was too much to ask for. Morgan was my spa therapist and I had a 'touch of bloom' mini facial and massage package with her and it was fantastic. She was very friendly and professional and understood all my needs and gave me such a tailored, bespoke and well needed treatment. As a beauty therapist myself, I know what the spas environment, service and treatments are suppose to be like and Middleton Lodge was nothing short of exceptional. All the little touches throughout the day did not go unnoticed and staff just went the extra mile. Thank you so much for making our visit wonderful and making my mums birthday so special. We will certainly be returning!
