Where Wales Slows Time
Sea views, candlelight and squishy armchairs β Pembrokeshire's most soul-soothing secret.
Perched above the dunes on the edge of Pembrokeshire's gloriously unspoilt coastline, Penally Abbey is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever considered leaving these islands for anywhere else. A labour of love for the Boissevain family, this intimate twelve-room retreat distils everything a great British bolthole should be: squishy armchairs by the fire, home-cooked food that genuinely nourishes, and views across Carmarthen Bay to Caldey Island that shift with the light from silver to gold. A ten-minute stroll connects you to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path; beyond that, Tenby's painted Georgian townhouses and sandy beaches are yours to explore at leisure.
The rooms are individually conceived and quietly beautiful. Seek out the Eaves Sea View double at the crown of the main house, where sloping ceilings frame elevated panoramas across the sand dunes, or splash on the Superior Double for floor-to-ceiling theatre over the golf links and the shimmering Gower Peninsula beyond. Every room arrives with a generous continental breakfast included β a small but telling detail that speaks to the hotel's unpretentious generosity of spirit.
At the heart of the house lies Rhosyn, a candlelit restaurant that earns its rosette with assured, produce-led cooking rooted in the Welsh landscape surrounding it. Couples in particular will find Penally Abbey almost impossibly romantic β a place where evenings lengthen pleasantly over good wine, and mornings begin with birdsong drifting through woodland gardens. Honest, heartfelt and utterly restorative, this is a staycation that will quietly rearrange your priorities.

What They Say
βHad the most lovely stay here before Christmas. Itβs the perfect blend of cosy homeliness and luxury. The staff were all really friendly and incredibly accommodating of our dog. The. Thereβs the view over the sea while eating the delicious breakfast in the mornings, all after an incredible nightβs sleep in the enormous bed. Thoroughly recommended. We went on to the Grove at Narbeth afterwards and preferred Penally, particularly with the location next to Tenby. Thanks to everyone at the hotel.β
βPenally Abbey is a rare find. We arrived to a roaring fire and were made to feel immediately welcome. All the staff were genuinely friendly and professional, superb food and the wine list well put together and reasonably priced. You can walk to the beach in 15 minutes and this is in itself a lovely walk through the dunes. We have a two year old and he was also made to feel really welcome which we appreciated very much. Thank you for a wonderful stay.β
βWhat a wonderful hotel! We really enjoyed our luxury night away, I only wish we could have stayed longer. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist, (who wore the most fabulous jumpers! π) who not only escorted us to our room and pointed out all it's features but also informed us we could return to the lounge for complimentary coffee and cakes once we'd refreshed. An unexpected treat, and the cakes were so nice! The decor of Room 5 was gorgeous and to see the sun rise over the sea in the morning was magical. Not forgetting the Bramley products everywhere that smellled so nice. We didn't take a evening meal but breakfast was very tasty and cooked to order. Overall a lovely night away and I'd love to go back soon.β
βA superb small luxury hotel in a beautiful part of Wales. The staff are really wonderful, the rooms are stunning and the food outstanding. It was informal and relaxing as a guest and our 3 night stay was heavenly according to Mrs J.β
βVery very lovely! - we used it for a dog walking beach holiday in early October. Lovely position overlooking the sea. about 20mins to walk down to the sea- across a golf course and there you are. Easy walk 40mins along the beach into the vibrant local town of Tenby. Ate good food there in the "Hope and Anchor Pub." Lots of outdoorsy surfy shops. Good local brewery. Recommend "Caldey Lollipop". Lots of amazing coastal walks nearby. The whole of Pembrokeshire is very pretty with beaches, castles, hills etc and this location is nicely located for the town and the countryside depending on weather and your interests. Hotel was very lovely - very smartly decorated by the owners in gorgeous taste. But the food was the peak - it is always a good sign when you cant work out which course was the best. I think it was the apple cake but still cant quite decide. Very smiley staff there. All in all - really enjoyed my short stay thereβ
