Burnham Market, Norfolk
Norfolk's Most Coveted Village Bolthole
Where Georgian elegance meets the salt-kissed Norfolk coast.
Tucked into the handsome village of Burnham Market β Norfolk's most quietly glamorous postcode β The Hoste Arms has been holding court since the 17th century, and it shows no signs of relinquishing its crown. This iconic coaching inn wears its heritage lightly, pairing its historic bones with 47 individually designed bedrooms that brim with characterful charm. Ten minutes from the wild, wind-swept beauty of the North Norfolk coast, it sits at the very heart of a village that feels like a love letter to the English countryside done properly.
For couples seeking sanctuary without the noise of family life, the adults-only Georgian Vine House is the jewel in The Hoste's crown β a chic retreat that offers peace, privacy and plenty of pretty little touches to make the weekend feel genuinely special. Meanwhile, Head Chef Herbert's kitchen is a serious draw in its own right, celebrating the finest local suppliers through menus that shift with the seasons. Whether you're lingering over a lazy lunch, working through the wine list at the bar, or surrendering to a knock-your-socks-off dinner, the food here is the kind that makes you rearrange your plans to stay one night longer.
And with The Hoste's tempting two-night packages β breakfast always waiting, cocktails occasionally on the house β rearranging those plans becomes remarkably easy. This is mid-range in price only; in spirit, it feels like an indulgence entirely worth making.

βWe had a nice stay. Really welcoming team, including the Manager, Reception, Dining area and Cleaning team were all very good. The room was comfortable. Food was good. Our only gripes, one major and one minor. We received a call before our stay to tell us the bar would be closed at 4pm on our last night of our stay and we would not be able to have dinner or get a drink after 4pm. When I said it was very late notice, the receptionist told me they had only just been told! For such a big project I very much doubt this was the case so we were left disappointed, but decided to go ahead with our stay because the call to inform us of the refurbishment came just before the deadline for the non refundable cost of the stay which made it impossible to find a decent alternative at such short notice. When we arrived the front of the Hoste was covered in scaffolding. We were not told about this beforehand. A minor point now: the sink in our room was tiny. Given the size of the bathroom, we have no idea why the sink is so small. Not practical. It would be nice to come back again sometime after the refurbishment has been completed to experience a stay at the Hoste without disruption.β
βFirst time at the Hoste. Reception lady was brilliant, very friendly and welcoming. Only one chap on the bar but he was excellent and let us sample a few ales. Beer was on point and lovely comfortable bar area. Room ground floor and for the money were very good and exceptionally clean. Lounge area very comfortable and had pre meal drinks all very reasonably priced. Dining room was very well presented and we all had a beef roast. The beef melted and the meal was excellent. I lost count of the amount of Sunday dinners that came out the kitchen. Highly recommend the Hoste. Sum it up - homely, warm welcome, great ales, great food. Surely that's all you need for a great stay away! Many thanks πβ
βFabulous 2 night stay. From booking to checking out, it was pretty near faultless. We had one of the dogs with us and all the staff made it so easy and comfortable, lead by the irrepressible manager who sets the tone for friendliness and helpfulness. Perfect location for a day at Wells, Holkham or Sandringham. Weβre planning next Xmas break there already! Thankyou The Hoste !β
βRestaurant review only. It's a great place and the service is ok. Unfortunately we had a very poor meal. The mussels were overcooked and not cleaned properly. Several items lacked flavour. The bread was stale. Several items, like the burger and mac'n'cheese, seemed to have cheap ingredients. Disappointing.β
βVery very average. Staff are absolutely miserable on the most part and a little incompetent to be honest. Actually, not very clean in public areas (dirty table and flies in game area // hand dryers filthy // toilets full of scum // spilt milk in public coffee fridge for 2 nights not cleaned whole stay) & when reported there was a fault in our room with phone & most importantly the bath tap not working, nothing was rectified in 2 days nor was there an apology. Restaurant forgot our main meals and then no apology even after a 45 minute wait. Then no cutlery or condiments brought. By 9:15 and breakfast bar was pretty empty. Again miserable staff not providing correct info. One said no oat milk or hot chocolate (don't think she could be bothered) other served both to the next customer. Honestly really not a very enjoyable stay. I have been before and it was a lot better years ago.β
