Castle Combe, Wiltshire
England's Most Enchanting Country Retreat
Where Cotswold stone, Michelin stars, and timeless village beauty conspire to make leaving feel impossible.
Follow the long, winding drive and let the 14th century honey-coloured stone of The Manor House draw you into one of England's most beguiling escapes. Nestled in the famously picturesque village of Castle Combe, this Wiltshire gem sits at the edge of the Cotswolds like a well-kept secret — all Italian gardens, crackling fireside lounges, and history humming quietly through every wall. It is, in every sense, a countryside retreat like no other.
For those who measure a great hotel by its table, Bybrook delivers magnificently. This Michelin-starred restaurant is the jewel in The Manor House's crown, where a gifted culinary team transforms the finest ingredients into something genuinely memorable. When the mood calls for something more convivial, The Castle Inn — the hotel's very own village pub — offers that quintessentially English counterpoint, warm, unpretentious, and thoroughly charming.
Golfers will find the 18-hole championship course nothing short of breathtaking, rolling through Cotswold countryside with views that demand a pause mid-swing. Couples, meanwhile, will discover that Castle Combe village itself — often cited as the prettiest in England — provides the most romantic of backdrops for an unhurried weekend. With a 4.6 out of 5 guest rating and a spring offer of 20% off two-night stays, there has never been a better moment to surrender to The Manor House entirely.

What They Say
“We had an absolutely amazing stay at The Manor House. We stayed the night as a birthday celebration, but also for our last night away before the arrival of our baby. We were delighted to find out on arrival that we’d been given a room upgrade, and found a lovely box of chocolates and handwritten note in our room. This gesture was so lovely, making our stay that extra special and one we won’t forget. All of the members of staff we encountered during our stay were so friendly and really went that extra mile. The hotel, grounds and surrounding village are just beautiful. It almost feels like you are stepping back in time. There is such a cozy vibe and it truly feels like you are staying in a big manor house rather than a hotel. We visited in January, so the hotel was quite quiet but this made it feel all the more special. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and I loved how there were various rooms which you can relax in during your stay. We also loved the welly boots by the front door. Had I not been pregnant, we’d definitely made the most of those! Overall, an absolutely wonderful stay. Thanks so much to the team for making it extra special for us. We will definitely be back!”
“I can’t say enough about our Christmas stay here at the Manor House. From the moment we checked in thoughtful details greeted us like a small tree in our room with a hamper of decorations so we could have that experience here. Another basket filled with treats made both in-house as well as locally made. Festive trees, wooden reindeer and lovely fires abound. The menus were thoughtfully curated and wine was plentiful. Christmas morning was a delight with a lovely stocking left outside our room with even more treats. This was a very special experience and one I’d do again with out hesitation.”
“This hotel is truly stunning and the staff and service professional and prompt . Ate at the Hotels restaurant last night and the 4 course meal was not only perfection but also exquisite. Well done Robert Potter and your team . Thank you also to Darion for an amazing introduction to all the courses and to the very knowledgeable sommelier for the amazing pairing wines . The bar staff were also friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant.”
“This was our fourth visit to The Manor House, and once again, it was an incredible experience. We booked the Lazy Sunday package for my husband’s birthday, and from start to finish, everything was perfect — the room was elegant and peaceful, the bed unbelievably comfortable, and the staff warm and professional. Dinner at the Bybrooke restaurant was a highlight, with the sommelier offering a brilliant wine recommendation and food that was simply out of this world (the bread deserves a special mention!). Every aspect of our stay — from the beautiful grounds and serene Italian garden to the exceptional service and dining — made it a truly memorable visit. It’s the perfect escape from the busyness of everyday life, and being only a short drive away, we can’t wait to return soon, especially to try their Sunday lunch!”
“Had the Lazy Sunday package with dinner in the Bybrooke restaurant for my husband's birthday. We had a lovely time. The bed was so comfortable and I had the best night's sleep ever. The room, the grounds, and the staff were all wonderful. The sommelier made a great wine recommendation for our dinner. The food (especially the bread) was out of this world and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Noticed they do Sunday lunch, and as we are only 25 minutes away, we will be back.”
