Bishopston, Gower
Gower's Most Quietly Irresistible Retreat
Where Welsh valley calm meets boutique warmth, and the coast is always calling.
Tucked into the folds of Bishopston Valley on Wales's breathtaking Gower Peninsula, The New Gower Hotel is the kind of find that makes a staycation feel genuinely indulgent. Fourteen signature and boutique rooms offer a considered, intimate alternative to the grand and impersonal, while the surrounding landscape — ancient woodland, coastal paths and some of Britain's finest beaches — does the rest of the work effortlessly. This is boutique hospitality with real soul, and a setting that will stop you mid-sentence.
At the heart of the hotel sits Monroe's Restaurant, where the cooking is as warm and generous as the Gower countryside itself. Whether you're fuelling up before a day's cycling through Swansea and the peninsula, or settling in for a leisurely dinner as the valley quietens around you, the kitchen earns its place as a genuine destination in its own right. Couples in particular will find the combination of good food, beautiful rooms and uncrowded Welsh coastline quietly irresistible.
For those who travel with four-legged companions, the dog-friendly lodges are a thoughtful and welcome touch — proof that The New Gower understands its guests completely. At a mid-range price point that belies the quality on offer, this is accessible luxury done honestly, in one of the most underrated corners of the British Isles. Book before word truly gets out.

What They Say
“Nice small hotel, nice polite and friendly hotel. Huge room with a bath on the middle of it. Nice food at the restaurant and drinks. Very affordable. Only comment is that they were not willing to add lavabred to a vegetarian breakfast because the chef didn't want to (I was told with those words). Then another member of my family asked for the same, same answer, but once he said it's not a valid reason, then the chef did it, but not chance of doing mine? Weird. Nice place overall.”
“Quite off the beaten track and bit tricky to get to. Service was good, friendly and attentive. Room was nice with very sizeable bathroom. Not very well soundproofed as could hear taps/shower/water in adjoining room when trying to sleep. Massive blocks of slate for key fobs are ridiculous. Food pretty average.”
“Nice find. Highly recommend as a base to explore the Gower. Staff are the best part about this hotel. Everyone we came into contact were lovely. Reasonably priced for accommodation and food. They made us a picnic to take out with us, menu filled out the night before, came in a cool bag with a picnic’s rug. We popped picnic into our rucksacks when we set off.”
“Fantastic boutique hotel, nestled in the Bishopston Valley. Great food, great rooms, great staff. Highly recommend for a visit”
“Excellent food ,accomodation very good, service sometimes slow as small hotel and there may be no staff at reception .”
