The Pig at Combe in Honiton, Devon — Restaurant with Rooms

Honiton, Devon

Devon's Most Delicious Manor Escape

Where the kitchen garden meets the drawing room, and every meal tells the story of the valley.

Tucked into 3,500 acres of rolling East Devon hills in the ancient Otter Valley, The Pig at Combe is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever bothered going abroad. This honey-hued Elizabethan manor house — all 16th-century bones and effortless charm — wears its history lightly, pairing centuries-old panelled rooms with a resolutely laid-back spirit that feels genuinely, refreshingly unpretentious. Large, characterful bedrooms, three walled kitchen gardens, and a wine cellar that would make any sommelier weep with envy: the scene is set from the moment you crunch up the gravel drive.

But it is at the table where The Pig at Combe truly earns its reputation. The restaurant's celebrated 25-mile menu is not a marketing gimmick — it is a genuine love letter to the surrounding landscape, with every dish shaped by what the kitchen gardens and local producers are yielding that week. Homegrown vegetables, foraged herbs, and the finest Devon larder ingredients arrive on the plate in combinations that are simple, seasonal, and quietly thrilling. Pull up a chair in the panelled dining room, order generously, and let the Devonshire hills do the rest.

For couples seeking romance, foodies chasing provenance, or nature lovers who want coastline and countryside in equal measure — Lyme Regis and the beaches are a mere eight miles away — The Pig at Combe delivers the rare thing: a staycation that feels like a genuine escape. Wander the walled gardens, take a treatment in the Potting Shed, raise a glass of local cider at The Folly. You will not want to leave. Book before someone else does.

Guest Voices

What They Say

Our family live locally and we have visited the Pig at Combe countless times over the years. It's our favourite place to take guests and we have never once been disappointed. The most fantastic location, gorgeous 'shabby chic' interiors, and outstanding service from the lovely smiling team and especially Will, who has treated our family with unbelievable kindness and hospitality. The vibe is relaxed, friendly and courteous. Log fires in winter and stunning gardens in summer... and all of this is before we have even mentioned the food, which is unfailingly excellent. Almost everything on the menu comes from within 25 miles and much of the veg and fruit is produced in their immaculate gardens. You would think that food of this standard would be super pricey, but the prices are very reasonable. We can't praise this place enough - it is a model of excellence. A fun and chilled way to spend a day or a couple of nights.

My husband and I stayed for a short break at The Pig at Combe in May 2025. We requested a quiet room and were put in the stable block away from the main house. Our room was an accessible room. It would be a great option for anyone with mobility issues as the room was all on one level with no steps or gradients. However it’s probably best to note that the approach to the room is an uneven cobblestone courtyard. The room had a split en-suite with a large walk-in shower (with optional pull down seat) on one side and a separate loo on the other. Both rooms had sinks. There was no air conditioning but an oscillating fan was provided. The room we were in also had a stable door so we were able to leave the top part open if we wanted a breeze on a hot afternoon. We enjoyed both a dinner and breakfasts in the hotel restaurant. The food was all local and delicious. The staff were all warm, relaxed and polite. The surrounding views were beautiful and we even met some ponies. A lovely calm restorative place to stay.

I had the honour of staying at the pig and it was quite frankly the best hotel in Devon. The food it exceptional, and the service couldn't be replicated, everyone was friendly and very accommodating to my allergies. Very relaxing and would recommend any pig stay to friends and family.

Feel like The Pig has lost its charm. Menu was uninspiring (think meat and two veg) and prices also inflated. £24 for porridge anyone? Lovely staff and great cocktails but am bowing out of this chain - so many amazing independent restaurants & stylish boutiques popping up rurally that felt ripped off by The Pig

A stunning property in an idyllic location and that’s just the start. From the GM Chris through the whole staff, there is a professional, welcoming, can-do approach….the perfect balance without being obsequious or over the top! The food at each meal is wonderful and to look forward to and the tour of the kitchen garden is well worth doing with knowledgeable and accessible leadership. Group sommelier, Luke, ran the wine course which was informative, useful and fun with excellent wines to illustrate the key elements and varieties in scope. We shall return as soon as possible and with much enthusiastic anticipation! Thank you to everyone there!
