Lavenham, Suffolk
Where Suffolk's History Lives Luxuriously
Six centuries of hospitality, reimagined for the modern romantic.
Few villages in England stop time quite like Lavenham, and at its medieval heart stands The Swan — a 15th-century inn that has been welcoming weary travellers since the Wars of the Roses. Today, those travellers arrive seeking something rather more indulgent: 46 beautifully individual bedrooms ranging from intimate Tudor doubles to the grand sweep of the Constable Suites, each one a quietly considered marriage of ancient timber frames and contemporary comfort. As a proud member of Pride of Britain Hotels and holder of four AA silver stars, The Swan sets a benchmark for what a British inn can aspire to be.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited The Lavenham Swan this past Monday for my boyfriend’s 29th birthday, and it was an absolutely exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was fantastic, but what truly makes this place stand out is the incredible team: Service & History: A huge thank you to Jake, our waiter, who went above and beyond. He took the time to share the fascinating history of Lavenham and the building itself, which added such a special layer to our dining experience. The blonde lady with curly hair was also fantastic! Housekeeping: Our room was spotlessly clean and tidy—easily one of the best-maintained rooms we’ve stayed in. Kudos to Lila and Bailey for their hard work and attention to detail. The Extra Mile: A special shout-out again to Lila and Ella for the wonderful surprise of bringing birthday fudge to the room! It’s these personal touches and the warm, professional service that made the celebrations feel so extra special. We had an amazing time and can’t recommend The Swan highly enough for a special occasion. We’ll definitely be returning!”
“We had an excellent nights stay. All of the staff were very attentive, friendly and welcoming. We were made to feel at home and nothing was to much bother. Our room (numbet 28) was perfect and cosy and had been cleaned to a very high standard. Our dining experience was great. From the choice of food to the service from all staff was exceptional. Breakfast was also great with plenty of choice and great quality. Thank you all from, the Chefs and waiting staff, front of house staff and for those who cleaned and prepared our room. You have a right to be proud of yourselves and your hotel. As Arny said "I'll be back" THANK YOU”
“A restful 3 nights at the Swan. Although it’s a big hotel it has an intimacy created by the beamed rooms, low ceilings and grand dining hall. Lots of corners and sofas to hang out in. Staff team are friendly, and attentive. Beds were comfortable but improved with an extra topper and different pillows. Bar is a bit sterile and needs to improve its offer, but again team friendly. Food - great breakfast lots of choice loved the health shots, fruit, yoghurt etc.. had one cooked breakfast which was delicious. Great coffee. Dinner - didn’t work so well, menu too long and service/ space feels a bit stuffy. Spa is nice - treatments were all booked out but enjoyed outdoor jacuzzi looking at stars and steam - nice thing to do after a walk. The area is gorgeous - walks from the hotel or in the local area are wonderful - a great green prescription. Thank you The Swan”
“Loved the quirky, old fashioned rooms and the bed was very cozy. The service was great, from the receptionist upon entering to the overnight staff, it was a pleasure talking to them all. The hotel is just a couple of minutes walk from the house that featured in Harry Potter and the villiage itself is really nice. Would definitely visit again.”
“I telephoned in advance of checking in, asking for a quiet room, my wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Everything was going well up until we returned to our room no 28 in the evening to hear what was explained to us as the boiler/boiler room beneath us giving off a loud humming noise and could not be switched off. We did try and put up with it, but after using wax ear plugs and we could still hear it through the building, we decided to complain. We were offered room 24 just up the corridor at 11.45pm. Let me say, all the staff were helpful with a nothing is a problem attitude.....Freddie our waiter had outstanding personality and a rare find, I do hope our paths cross again Freddie, I see you in a more senior management role. We used the health spa/steam room and found this to be satisfactory, the small relaxation pool was a little too busy for us and was not relaxing. Dinner and breakfast were excellent.......a small tip for the head waiter, next time when pouring wine from an ice bucket, use a towel first, water was pouring from the bottom of the bottle into my wife's dinner. The management did give us a small discount in the morning for any inconvenience. All in all, given the experience, we would regrettably not stay at the The Swan again. My advice to anyone making a reservation here, book a room as far away from the boiler room as possible.”
